The theory of Perception Spheres posits that higher spheres (principles and orders) govern lower ones (values, relationships, emotions, and physical outcomes). Principles are not mere abstractions — they form the structural foundation that determines whether love, life energy, health, and other desired values can flow freely or become blocked.

Bert Hellinger’s work with family constellations offers strong empirical confirmation of this thesis. Through thousands of phenomenological observations, Hellinger identified the Orders of Love — fundamental principles such as:

  • Everyone in the system has the right to belong (including the excluded, the dead, aborted children, or former partners). 
  • Respect for hierarchical order (those who came earlier take precedence over those who came later). 
  • Balance in giving and taking.

When these higher principles are violated, the lower spheres — personal values, health, fertility, or relationships — inevitably suffer, regardless of individual effort or willpower.

Classic example: Infertility

Hellinger viewed infertility not primarily as a medical or personal failure, but as an interrupted flow of life from ancestors to descendants. The body expresses: “As long as someone in the system remains unrecognized or excluded, new life cannot come.” Attempts to enforce the value of “having a child” through force (e.g., IVF) often address only the symptom, while the underlying systemic principle remains unresolved. Once the excluded person is acknowledged and taken into the heart (“I give you a place”), the flow of life frequently resumes naturally.

Similar patterns appear in addictions, chronic illnesses, and repeating life difficulties. The individual tries to realize values such as freedom, health, or fulfillment, yet remains entangled in unconscious loyalty to a disturbed family order. The physical symptom is an expression of this unconscious loyalty to the disrupted order of the family system — and it persists until the Orders of Love are restored.

Hellinger’s constellations thus demonstrate in practice what the theory of Perception Spheres states: Higher principles rule. Efforts focused solely on the lower sphere (values and symptoms) yield only limited or temporary results. True movement and healing occur when the governing principles are honored and the systemic order is realigned. The love and life force then begin to flow again by themselves.
